TOWNSHIP OF LANGLEY, BC — August 17th, 2022 — Holly Dickinson will be running with the Contract with Langley team for School Trustee along with Joel Neufeld in the upcoming October 15th, 2022, local elections.

Dickinson is long-time Langley resident and elementary school teacher in Surrey. Raised in Langley, Dickinson attended Kindergarten to Grade 12 in Brookswood. She then went on to obtain degrees at both SFU and UBC. Dickinson ran in the 2021 Trustee by-election last Feburary, 2021.

"I want to advocate for students, educators and their families, as a School Trustee with a new, younger, experienced voice in touch with the current issues we face," she said. She added, “When I decided to run in the school board by-election last year, I realized that to make real progress and plan for our kids with a unified team that are focused on the future, not just maintaining the status quo.”

Dickinson has a decade of firsthand experience as an elementary classroom teacher. “Our board needs everyday representatives who are currently working in the education system, frontline witnesesses of the modern, daily struggles that our families and students experience. We need to make real progress on equity, bullying, and staffing issues with new, innovative policies," she said.

"I speak from experience, Holly’s honesty, compassion and experience will provide enormous value to families, schools, the Langley School Board and our community as a whole for the long haul," said Hugh McDonald, a Langley resident, teacher and educational academic with over 20 years of experience.

"Holly Dickinson brings unbridled enthusiasm to everything she does. Holly is a person who cares, is passionate about education and isn't afraid to ask the tough questions or to advocate whole heartedly for all of the things our kids and our schools need," said Sherree Harman, a retired ASL interpreter and Langley resident.

"Electing people who are progressive, innovative, and most importantly willing to work together is vital to achieve an ambitious Plan for Schools. We have the team that can and will do that," Dickinson said.

Dickinson looks forward to discussing these issues and many with members in the community in the weeks ahead. The Contract With Langley full Plan for Schools will be released in late September.

With so much growth, SD35 and Township really need to collaborate on big, new ideas to address the unique challenges Langley faces. I want to be part of a great team that will do that.
